What We Believe

The Bible
The sole basis of our faith is God’s Word, the Bible.  We believe that the Bible, comprised of sixty-six books was written over a period of four thousand years through the instrumentality of chosen men.  We hold that the Scriptures are infallible (without fault) and inerrant (without error) in the original manuscripts.  We believe that the Bible is truth given by God.  Thus, the Bible is the unique, full and final authority on all matters pertaining to faith and practice.  Though other books, both modern an ancient, may contain helpful spiritual truth, no other writings are inspired by God.  The Bible is the only book from which we receive the full and final authority of God.  Therefore, we humbly submit all our thoughts, plans, and practices to its scrutiny.

God
We believe that there is one true, holy God, eternally existing in three persons:  Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; each of whom possesses equally all the attributes of deity and the characteristics of personality.

God: The Father
We believe that God has always and will always exist.  We believe that He is the creator and sustainer of the universe.  We believe that by His providence He continues to work through the history of mankind to bring about His redemptive purposes.

God: The Son
We believe that Jesus Christ was born of a virgin, lived a perfect life and voluntarily died on the cross to atone for the sins of all mankind.  We believe that He rose from the dead, ascended into heaven and now sits at the right hand of the Father where He continually intercedes for His own. We believe that He will come again to earth to consummate history and the eternal plan of God.

God: The Holy Spirit
We believe that the Holy Spirit was sent by God into the world to enlighten the minds of sinners and awaken them to the saving work of Jesus Christ.  We believe that the Holy Spirit, at the time of salvation, indwells every believer to sanctify and regenerate them.  We believe that the Holy Spirit guides believers in understanding and applying the Word of God, uniquely gifts believers for service within the Body of Christ, and empowers them to live lives of holiness to the glory of God.

Salvation

The central theme of God’s Word and the core purpose of Christ’s life on earth was to reconcile all men to God.  In the beginning of human history man disobeyed God and chose to live independently of His will.  This rebellion, called sin, severed the relationship between man and God and rendered man incapable of pleasing God.  In response God sent His son to die on the cross to atone for the sins of mankind.  Thus, salvation is a work of God’s grace, freely offered to those who will receive it through faith (Ephesians 2:8).  Saving faith is that which reflects a humble heart and a submissive will to the free gift of God’s grace.

Although there are many scriptures that address the salvation of mankind, the following verses reflect the general guidelines to the response of man to the will of God concerning salvation:

Acts 2:38 – Repentance and Baptism
Acts 3:19 – Repentance
Acts 16:29-31 – Faith
Romans 10:9,10,13 – Faith and Confession

We believe that death seals the destiny of each person.  At the consummation of history, when Christ returns, there will be a resurrection of all mankind and a judgment that will determine the fate of each individual.  Those who did not receive Christ as Savior in this life will be completely and eternally condemned to hell.  Those who accepted Christ as Savior in this life will enter heaven and be rewarded for works done while in the body.

The Church
When a person expresses faith in and submits to Christ as Savior and Lord, he/she is joined to the Body of Christ, the Church.  There is one true church universal, comprised of all those who acknowledge Jesus Christ as Son Of God, Savior and Lord.  Throughout the world believers join together in local congregations for the purpose of worship, prayer, the study of proclamation of God’s Word, the ministry of believers and the evangelization of unbelievers.  Grace Fellowship is a small part of the universal existence and operation of the Church of Jesus Christ.  Under the leadership of elders, its members unite together in ministry and service for the purpose of glorifying God.
